Stephan Grossman & John Renbourn, The Free Kingdoms, LP US Shanachie 1988 - 95006 

First released by Sonet in 1987, the album was released by Shanchie the following year. Renbourn stated that the studio recording was beautiful and clear, but something must have gone wrong during the mastering process. Was producer John Paul Jones to blame? We can't know, but the outcome is not positive. In fact, this third album by the Renbourn-Grossman duo was recorded not at Livingstone but in Devon at Obus Recording Studios. The cover is taken from a 15th-century manuscript entitled "Très Riches Heures" (by Jean, Duc de Berry, Granger collection). On the back is a photograph of Josephine Ayres.
